Meet Our Muse: Sarah Stephens
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF- WHO YOU ARE, WHERE YOU’RE FROM AND WHAT SETS YOUR SOUL ON FIRE?
Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m from Sydney. I love music, art, film, dogs, dancing and virtual reality zombie hunting combat.
YOU RECENTLY SHOT OUR BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION LOTUS CAMPAIGN AND WE’VE SHOT WITH YOU BEFORE, WHAT ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM SHOOT DAYS WITH US?
I love working with the Nine Lives team. The days are long, but the people and vibe on set make the work an absolute dream. We always have a beautiful team lunch complete with champagne. What more could you ask for?!
WHICH LOTUS PIECE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF LIVING IN THE MOST?
I love the Willa jumpsuit!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
My everyday uniform is pretty classic and monochromatic. But I love throwing in some vintage finds and accessories.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY IN THE LIFE OF SARAH?
I’m not a morning person, but I’m trying to be to appease my boyfriend and our two dogs. I start the day taking them to Centennial park for a jog, followed by pilates, then usually I have castings or a shoot or work at the art gallery PIERMARQ*.HOW DID YOU GET INTO MODELLING AND DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS OR TRICKS FOR GALS TRYING TO GET INTO THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
I won the Girlfriend Magazine Model Search back in 2006. The industry has changed so much, but if it’s something you really want to do then I would consider reaching out to reputable agencies. Social media is now a tool that can really help your career, I have a love/hate relationship with it as I find it distracts the majority of people that use it. But it can be helpful to help launch your career in the industry.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN THREE WORDS?
Creative, curious & empathetic.
YOU’RE CONSTANTLY TRAVELING FOR WORK, WHICH DESTINATION HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE SO FAR AND WHY?
I loved Ischia Island just off the coast of Napoli. The people are so friendly and passionate about life and food. The creative team and I stayed with these gorgeous Italian hosts that cooked us beautiful dinners that ended with homemade limoncello from their lemon tree in their garden.
FASHION AND MODELLING ASIDE, YOU’RE ALSO A TALENTED ACTRESS! WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME HIGHLIGHTS FOR YOUR ACTING CAREER AND WHICH ONE DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST?
I loved filming The Witch in Canada. I met Anya Taylor Joy on set and she was so divine and welcoming. Kate Dickie was also an inspiration to talk to and the director Robert Eggers is an absolute genius. He made me feel so comfortable on set, which was difficult given the circumstances of the scene.
I also did a play in New York and Belfast called The Flood. It was a four person play that set place during Hurricane Sandy in New York. I don’t think I have ever been more nervous during opening night. At one point during the play I had a solo singing number and it really did not help that one of my dearest friends was sitting front row.
My most recent work was a short film I did in lockdown called The Yellow Jack. I play the Captain of a ship anchored at sea due to an outbreak of plague.
I try to maintain order of the crew while slowly descending into madness. I feel like many could relate to elements of the film during lockdown.
