Fit for the stars 〰 A guide to styling like our favourite retro muses

It’s no secret that some of our most frequent sources of inspiration are the magical artists, designers, models and muses that have come long before us, pioneering fashion in all their weird and wonderful ways. It’s the larger than life style that draws us in every single time - from fabrics, the over the top details, the unapologetic and oh so bold expression, the embellishment, and all the exuding confidence that was so prominent in the golden eras that makes us want to teleport back to these days. Until then, we have costume parties, festivals, celebrations and life's fun moments that allow us to embody style and persona in its utterly iconic ways and recreate it in our own unique ways.

Consider this a fun and quirky little guide to pairing some of our favourite NLB pieces to help curate your very own outfits inspired by the stars!

Twiggy was the ultimate mod muse of the '60s. With her golden pixie haircut, cute freckles and dreamy and completely iconic doe eyes - her look embodied the swinging sixties and all its rollicking moments. Twiggy's signature style consisted of dramatic over lined eye makeup, mini shift and baby doll dresses, coloured tights and vibrant block colours. And here we are, bringing her back with our Anita dress! Pair it with gogo boots, a bright turtleneck and your fave retro accessories.

If it's not glaringly obvious, Penny Lane from the film Almost Famous is our ALWAYS '70s muse. Despite being a fictional character, she was dreamed up to personify a group of female promoters in the '70s called 'The Flying Garter Girls',  and truthly, we think the film captures the dreamy, statement-making, truly golden essence of '70s fashion just perfectly. In the film, Penny Lane’s signature style consists of vintage folky embroidered blouses, knee high boots, flared denim and of course, her infamous shearling-lined coat. Some outfits just stick with us well beyond the final credits of a film, and this one is sticking for life! It's just that '70s style in all its wild glory that we just froth so much. In true Penny Lane style, we've reimagined her look with our Amber blouse, paired with knee high boots, retro cord, John Lennon-esque sunnies and topped it off with a Penny Lane jacket of course!

Need we say more? It's absolutely no secret that Diana Ross is our most fabulous disco muse. From her early days with The Supremes, to her fabulous '70s disco days, she’s the original soul diva. We just pine over her performances from the Motown eras in outfits that were dripping in glamour and exuberance. She was, by every regard, an icon. Nobody did way back when or does glam quite like her - with all the luxe textures, sequins and gold. You can recreate queen Diana Ross's look for your own kind of Saturday night fever vibes, a dress up party or even a hens party with our very own dress that truly is a nod to her fabulously extravagant ways, the Diana dress! Pair it with bold golden accessories and add ALL the sparkles. You're ready to dance & disco your way across an illuminated dance floor, queen!

We had to end with a bang. With his ever changing alter egos and phases, there is always something to take inspiration from when it comes to David Bowie. He was always pushing the boundaries with his gender bending styling - a true chameleon. Bowie was a massive fan of a pant suit, so we reimagined his iconic style using our Foxy overalls in blush, styled with extra extra extra retro pink boots and our Little Wing top in musk worn backwards to create a high neckline. Add in your tambourine and you’re ready to hit the stage!
